About Dutton Bits

When the calendar turned to 1976, little did I realize that the world of Western horse riding was about to change forever. With a dash of hard work and a touch of divine intervention, my journey as a horse bit maker began. Unbeknownst to me, this humble endeavor would morph into the entity now known as Dutton Bits. Reflecting on it all, I can't help but see how the hand of destiny has played a role in shaping my destiny as a craftsman and a horseman.

They have always held a deep conviction, shaped by the biblical verse John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." This strong faith drives Dutton’s passion to empower horsemen who, in turn, create better horses.

The Art of Conversation: The Horse and the Bit

At the heart of successful horsemanship, I firmly believe, is communication. And not just any communication, but a two-way conversation between the rider and the horse. This dialog includes both active listening and the ability to make requests. The humble bridle bit is an integral tool in this communication process.

From the youngest colts to the seasoned mares, each horse brings a lesson about the bits to use. They constantly inspire, pushing Dutton to improve and refine the bits he’s personally crafted.

Crafting Quality: The Dutton Bits Experience

Founded by yours truly, Greg Dutton, in the quaint town of Los Lunas, New Mexico, Dutton Bits has garnered a reputation for exceptional craftsmanship.

Dutton takes great pride in every bit he produces. Every Dutton bit we produce carries with it a lifetime guarantee. We aim to create better horsemen and horses by providing hand-forged bits, each designed to foster a bond of understanding between rider and horse.

"The idea of Dutton Bits came to life in 1976 when I crafted my first horse bit. Little did I realize what it would become. I count my blessings, attributing my success to divine grace and relentless determination. God bestows each of us with unique talents and abilities; He made me a horseman and a bit maker. My years of experience have taught me much, inspiring me to create a myriad of horse bridle bit designs. Communication, I believe, is the key to making better horsemen who then make better horses. Every day, I ride with the bits I've made, always seeking ways to improve them." – Greg Dutton
